Alfred Ludlow was a main character and protagonist in Legends of the Fall. The eldest son of Isabel Ludlow and Colonel William Ludlow, Alfred grew to be a responsible and cautious man, very different, but still close to his brothers Tristan and Samuel. The Ludlow clan and the close bond between the brothers are threatened to be destroyed when a woman by the name of Susannah Fincannon enters their lives, initially as Samuel's fiancée.
